El diari El Día Español de Mèxic va fer una entrevista a Fernando de los Ríos el novembre de 1926. En aquesta, va parlar de Benito Pérez Galdós. Aquesta breu peça recorda les opinions del destacat intel·lectual i polític socialista sobre l’insigne escriptor, pel qual, com veurem, sentia una intensa admiració.
El diari explicava que Fernando de los Ríos parlava amb “veritable unció” de Galdós. Pensava que l’escriptor era un d’aquells homes que “com una torxa” passaven d’una Espanya a una altra. Era molt difícil trobar figures semblants a Galdós o a Giner de los Ríos a tota Europa.
Galdós només podria comparar-se amb alguns novel·listes russos per la seva profunditat, intensitat i per la seva força analítica.
Galdós era tot un símbol, i seguint amb les similituds novel·lístiques russes, De los Ríos creia que als espanyols els passava amb l’escriptor canari el mateix que els russos sentien per Dostoievski. Si es volia penetrar en l’ànima espanyola calia recórrer a les obres de Galdós, de la mateixa manera que era necessari llegir Dostoievski per acostar-se al fons de l’ànima russa.
Però Galdós també era un dramaturg fonamental. Els personatges centrals de les seves obres tenien la proporció de “cíclops”. Així, Doña Perfecta era tota la història d’una època espanyola.
Hem consultat el número del 26 de novembre de 1926 d’El Socialista, publicació que va recollir l’entrevista del diari mexicà.

El periódico El Día Español de México realizó una entrevista a Fernando de los Ríos en noviembre de 1926. En la misma habló de Benito Pérez Galdós. Esta breve pieza recuerda las opiniones del destacado intelectual y político socialista sobre el insigne escritor por el que, como veremos, sentía una intensa admiración.
El periódico explicaba que Fernando de los Ríos hablaba con “verdadera unción” de Galdós. Pensaba que el escritor era uno de esos hombres que “como una antorcha” pasaban de una España a otra. Era muy difícil encontrar figuras similares a Galdós o Giner de los Ríos en toda Europa.
Galdós solamente podría compararse a algunos novelistas rusos por su profundidad, intensidad, y por su fuerza analítica.
Galdós era todo un símbolo, y siguiendo con las similitudes novelísticas rusas, De los Ríos creía que a los españoles les pasaba con el escritor canario lo que los rusos sentían por Dostoiewski. Si se quería penetrar en el alma española había que recurrir a las obras de Galdós, de la misma manera que era necesario leer a Dostoiweski para acercarse al fondo del alma rusa.
Pero Galdós también era un fundamental dramaturgo. Los personajes centrales de sus obras tenían la proporción de “cíclopes”. Así Doña Perfecta era toda la historia de una época española.
