Dinamita. Historia de la violencia de clases en Estados Unidos. 1826-1934, de Louis Adamic es un clásico que no contaba con traducción al castellano. Ahora podemos leerlo gracias a La Linterna Sorda Ediciones, Colección Guardianes del Sueño, 11, (Madrid, 2017). El autor publicó el libro en 1931 aunque sacó otra edición en 1934. El momento era importante, ya que se estaba padeciendo el terremoto social y económico de la Gran Depresión de 1929.
La obra es de capital importancia para entender la historia del movimiento obrero norteamericano, como así lo han demostrado escritores y pensadores de la talla de Sinclair Lewis, Howard Zinn, o Noam Chomsky. El texto incluye una documentación gráfica impresionante.
Louis Adamic (1899-1951) fue un escritor de origen esloveno, naciendo dentro del Imperio Austro-húngaro. Siendo un joven estudiante participó en el movimiento nacionalista yugoslavo. En 1913 sería arrestado y se le expulsó del sistema educativo. Decidió emigrar a los Estados Unidos. Iría al frente en la Gran Guerra dentro de las fuerzas norteamericanas. En 1932 recibió una Beca Guggenheim. Como hemos indicado, en 1931 escribió Dinamita, con edición posterior. En 1934 publicó El regreso del nativo donde hacía una crítica intensa al gobierno de Alejandro I de Yugoslavia. En 1940 fue nombrado editor de la revista Common Ground. Se convirtió en un destacado novelista con obras ya clásicas de la literatura norteamericana. Durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial apoyó a los partisanos yugoslavos, y la creación de la nueva Yugoslavia. En 1949 sería nombrado miembro de la Academia Eslovena de Ciencias y Artes. Murió en septiembre de 1951, y no parece muy clara la causa.
